December 9 - Gary Cooper

Each day in December I'll be celebrating a handsome man. You may ask why, but there's no meaningful reply I can give other than: why not? They'll be revealed over the next 31 days in strict alphabetical order, so no favouritism. And you never know, I might celebrate 31 women in January...!

GARY COOPER, 1901-1961
When Gary Cooper was a young man, he was unspeakably handsome. When he was starring in silent films in the 1920s, such as The Winning of Barbara Worth, The Texan and Wings, he was just beautiful, with gorgeous eyes. He was obviously very masculine too, something helped immensely by the fact he used to appear in a great many Western films. For some reason, Gary seemed to age quite swiftly, and by the 1950s he'd lost his handsome looks somewhat, although he was still a good-looking fella. Gary was synonymous with the Western genre, even in later life, perhaps thanks to those handsome looks which got more and more rugged over time.

In 1936's Mr Deeds Goes to Town. Mesmerising!
